Women

  • Kia + Charles

She is a timeless beauty and it was so evident on their big day. It's a day that was many years and tears in the making so when the time came, it was cause for celebration. The morning before the ceremony Kia was the picture of calm and cool, there was a peace that was emanating from her that was simply contagious. Kia knew this was their day, and she was with her family and exended family ready to declare this new chapter for them all. It was hard to not get caught up in all the merriment that day, I wound up dancing with new and old friends for a good portion of the night and holy cow was I tired the next morning, but it was so worth it. Thank you Kia and Charles for asking me to document a portion of your day, it was a family reunion from the start and I'm so glad I got included in it :)

  • Brooke + Alexandria

These two! I could regale you with tons of stories of Alexandria and what she means to me and my life. She's sat with me through some dark times and laughed with me through some awesome times. She's one of the first I told about Andrew and subsequently she was the first to ask Andrew his intentions threatening him if anything should happen to me :). Shortly after I met the love of my life, Alexandria met hers. We would message back and forth squealing about the awesome things our other halves had done for us and talk about how surreal it was to be in this stage of out lives together. When she told me that Brooke had proposed I could not have been happier, when she asked me capture their wedding I could not have been more proud. They got married overlooking this amazing spot in Richmond a few weeks after marriage equality finally came to the Commonwealth. Right after their ceremony we ran into a tour group that excitedly celebrated with us that these two wonderful ladies who had fallen in love were able to marry on that day. The whole day was wonderfully surreal perfectly beautiful.

They had already gotten each other rings early in their relationship so for their wedding they decided to exchange necklaces that carried significance to each other. Both necklaces matched their personalities perfectly.

"I think the quality of sexiness comes from within. It is something that is in you or it isn't and it really doesn't have much to do with breasts or thighs or the pout of your lips."

    ~Sophia Loren

I love this quote because I feel like this is what boudoir is to me. It's not just about the body, it's not just about the outfit or the hair and make-up. While all that helps what I have noticed and watch transpire through these sessions is how much the sexiness comes from these women while I work with them. I watch as the posture changes, the eyes soften and they embrace fully who they are. The effects last far past the session and they see themselves so differently than when they walked in. K defnitely was a case in this, she wanted to do this as a gift to her husband, using a truck they had restored together but as the afternoon went one I think it became as much a gift for herself and a new way to see  those things she saw as flaw as assests.

  • Tremayne

The session started simply enough, with a photograph. My beautiful friend Ann posted this shot of herself on Facebook and I was immediately inspired!

The ideas were coming like a flood and I knew I needed to translate her look into a session. I started messsaging Tremayne that night and we came up with some ideas that would work. I scheduled the session on the same day that this handsome guy, who is also my other 1/2  and a fellow brilliant mind would be in town.

The day was absolutely perfect! Tremayne nailed the look, Andrew was awesome inspiration and a great set of eyes, even shooting some himself. This may be one of my favorite sessions of the year because I got a chance to collaborate with one of the most creative and beautiful minds I know!

Andrew shot the next 3 shots, he did fantastic!

    See, he nailed it!

“One doesn’t stop seeing. One doesn’t stop framing. It doesn’t turn off and turn on. It’s on all the time.” – Annie Leibovitz

When I saw this room the day before I could not stop looking. I could not stop looking  at the way the light poured in through the blinds, how the colors of the walls and the lamp perfectly fit one another, creating this cool vibe.  Angela showed up the following day and I could not stop looking at her. How beautiful she looked that day, that sparkle in her eye, and how beautifully that dress complimented her. I could totally see her in that room I was enamored by the day before and the results were far better than I could have ever imagined.

“I fell for her in summer, my lovely summer girl,
From summer she is made, my lovely summer girl,
I’d love to spend a winter with my lovely summer girl,
But I’m never warm enough for my lovely summer girl,
It’s summer when she smiles, I’m laughing like a child,
It’s the summer of our lives; we’ll contain it for a while
She holds the heat, the breeze of summer in the circle of her hand
I’d be happy with this summer if it’s all we ever had.”
    ― Maggie StiefvaterShiver

This session dates back to the early parts of Summer, where the heat is not too overwhelming, the days are a little longer, and the flowers are still in bloom. We found a patch of greens and purples in the midst of the city that day, and then found an area where the light was just perfect amongst the history of this old building. All that adventuring made for some great photos of a city I have known all my life but in the Summer it's just a little bit different.

  • On Beauty

Ok, this is one of those better late than never situations ;)

I got tagged 3 times in the 5 photos that make you feel beautiful thing that was circulating around Instagram, and Facebook. The first time I was tagged I was going to ignore it, the 2nd time, I weighed it out and the 3rd time I started to ask myself why the hesitance. Why was I pushing against engaging in this thing that really should have been easy, I mean I work with women and help them see their beauty all the time so this should be 2nd nature for me, right?! Nope! because as I think about it, the word beautiful is one that I don't see about myself, it's something I have been told about myself for as long as I can remember but not a word I would use.

Do I see myself as cute, sure, adorable, yes! adorkable.. umm have we met? ;) but not just beautiful. Words like beautiful, hot, even *gulp* sexy are not words I would ever use about me not because I see myself as unattractive, but just not to the standard of beautiful. That word I see linked to things like nature and art, situations that bring a tear to your eye or warm your heart. Someone living in a moment and letting their whole being shine, those are the things I see as beautiful. When I started to look back at the photos I chose I started to see those things.

I saw that time the guy I kinda dig a whole lot, the one who made up for all the crap, made me laugh, or that moment when someone else pointed a camera at me during a session and I looked like a painting. There was that time right after the darkest spot in my life when I looked my most serene. I saw that day I decided to put on a bathing suit and say undoubtedly that I had a bathing suit body, and that other time I willingly jumped in front of a camera when I have spent so much time hiding behind it. These are the beautiful times for me, these are the things that stand out. :)

I'm not going to tag anyone or make any person create their own collage but I will say this, think about those times, when you are fully yourself, completely relaxed, brimming with love. Those times you succeeded in something that scared you or experienced something so wonderful you could not contain your joy. Find those photos, hold onto those moments because in those times, without a doubt.. you are beautiful!

  • B

There is so much I can say about this session and how wonderful it was to work with B. When I first chatted with B over Skype I knew it was going to be a fabulous session because not only did she want to surprise her husband-to-be for their wedding she wanted to do this session for herself. She wanted to celebrate her body and herself in this unique way. Watching her transformation while she was in the chair was one thing, but watching her relay that confidence during our session was totally another. Our time together just flew by and I totally could have shot her forever! :)

Boudoir sessions aren't simply about looking sexy or showing off your body; they are about showcasing yourself as you are, whether it be for yourself or a loved one. My experience with Jaime was nothing short of amazing. She really helped me feel comfortable with myself in the session, including bringing me a blanket if I got cold and letting me bring a friend to be behind the scenes. When I gave the photos to my new husband for his birthday, I could see on his face how honored he was for me to do that for him. We both got an opportunity to feel loved and cherished through this session, because Jaime is wonderful at reflecting that feeling in her photos. Thanks, Jaime, for your beautiful work.

  • Her Words: A

So often you hear my perspective on the sessions and how excited I am to see the transformation and end result. I reached out to a couple of ladies who have had a session with me and asked them to talk about their experiences on the other side of the lens. I will be sharing them from time to time and maybe you'll see yourself in their stories.

Here is A's story... in her words

In the past few years, I haven't really concerned myself with my appearance. I am a truck driver after all, so who cares what I look like? Being overweight is just another excuse to "let myself go". As long as myself and my clothes are clean, I'm happy!I never considered myself to be beautiful on the outside, so I tried to make up for it by being beautiful on the inside. Then one day, I saw photos that my friend had posted of herself (she is overweight also), and a light went off in my head! These photos were AMAZING! She wasn't overweight, she was BEAUTIFUL!! And I thought, I want that too!

My wedding anniversary was coming up, and what a great anniversary gift it would be! So I contacted Jaime about setting up a session. We met in a hotel room, where the girls were waiting for me to do my hair and make-up. I had so much fun hanging out with them! They made me feel like a queen! I was a little baffled at first about the hotel room....wondering how this plain room was going to produce magnificent photos like the ones my friend posted. But Jaime worked her magic, and with the help of Karen and Harmony, made me look AND feel like a million bucks!

I have never in my life been happy with photos of myself, until now! I can honestly say, when I look at these photos, I am beautiful! So even though I drive a truck for weeks at a time, now I find myself putting a little more effort into my appearance. Nothing drastic, mind you, just a few extra little touches here and there, because now I actually care about the Me that everyone sees! And by the way, my husband was THRILLED with his gift! Thanks Jaime, Karen, and Harmony, for an AWESOME experience!!!

    Sleep the summer chill

    And sheets of linen

    Hush the scarrered sound

    Of time dispersing

I have been trying to get back into the habit of making a soundtrack for each shoot I do.
I figured I'd start including them in these posts so you can get a feel for what's in my head :)

    Enjoy
