Weddings

  • Jennifer and Quinton

Jennifer and Quinton's love story that is a long time coming.  In 8th grade he fell for her quickly, she took some time. They dated for a brief period before she called it off. He stuck by her, being a great friend and over the years, as these stories tend to evolve, she, as he says it, finally got it right!

We did their engagement session wandering around Carytown and it was quite obvious how much they just fit. The way he looks after her, how easily she smiles in his presence, the comfort in their embrace. It's easy to see that while it took awhile to get there, it was totally worth the wait.

  • Megan and Miguel

Megan and Miguel did things their own way. They eloped in Spain and had a lovely reception on the Eastern Shore for family and friends to celebrate their anniversary. They are such a warm and welcoming couple and after spending time with their family and friends I can totally see where it stems from.

  • Kia + Charles

She is a timeless beauty and it was so evident on their big day. It's a day that was many years and tears in the making so when the time came, it was cause for celebration. The morning before the ceremony Kia was the picture of calm and cool, there was a peace that was emanating from her that was simply contagious. Kia knew this was their day, and she was with her family and exended family ready to declare this new chapter for them all. It was hard to not get caught up in all the merriment that day, I wound up dancing with new and old friends for a good portion of the night and holy cow was I tired the next morning, but it was so worth it. Thank you Kia and Charles for asking me to document a portion of your day, it was a family reunion from the start and I'm so glad I got included in it :)

  • Megan + David

“When you are dancing with your partner,

for that two and a half minutes,

you are in love with each other.

    You're corresponding with each other

by the moves that you make.

It's a love affair, between you and your partner

    and the music.

You feel the music, you feel your partner,

she feels you and she feels the music.

So there the three of you are together.

You've got a triangle, you know. Which one do you love best?”

    - Frankie Manning

Their relationship started through words on a keyboard, then a failed date, then a few muuuch better dates, and the rest is history. This is a couple that loves to dance and actually dancing is what brought them closer during their courtship. So it was a given that this wedding would be an all out dance party, the ceremony was short and sweet making the reception this 2+ hour dance affair. It was a sweet time with some even sweeter moves! :)

  • Brooke + Alexandria

These two! I could regale you with tons of stories of Alexandria and what she means to me and my life. She's sat with me through some dark times and laughed with me through some awesome times. She's one of the first I told about Andrew and subsequently she was the first to ask Andrew his intentions threatening him if anything should happen to me :). Shortly after I met the love of my life, Alexandria met hers. We would message back and forth squealing about the awesome things our other halves had done for us and talk about how surreal it was to be in this stage of out lives together. When she told me that Brooke had proposed I could not have been happier, when she asked me capture their wedding I could not have been more proud. They got married overlooking this amazing spot in Richmond a few weeks after marriage equality finally came to the Commonwealth. Right after their ceremony we ran into a tour group that excitedly celebrated with us that these two wonderful ladies who had fallen in love were able to marry on that day. The whole day was wonderfully surreal perfectly beautiful.

They had already gotten each other rings early in their relationship so for their wedding they decided to exchange necklaces that carried significance to each other. Both necklaces matched their personalities perfectly.

  • Stephanie + Felipe

I completely adore my couples! Since I have begun shooting weddings on my own I've been blown away at the couples that cross my path. Each one of them celebrated their special days in their own unique ways and each one was so much fun; Stephanie and Felipe were certainly no exception. Their wedding was not just one day, but an entire weekend and it was filled with so much love, and joy it was purely contagious.

Stephanie and Felipe wanted to not only celebrate this stage in their lives but also the people who have been by their sides since the beginning. They started the weekend with a roast which really allowed friends and family to share stories of them both and the night that these two wonderful people met. The entire night I just listened to what these two meant to the people in their lives and it was quite obvious that both Stephanie and Felipe are dearly, dearly loved, and supported by the community that surrounds them. That same love and support was equally apparent during the wedding the following day.

They opted to mix things up a bit and do the reception before the ceremony which was a first for me and hopefully not the last. People got a chance to mingle and catch up, sharing drinks, a great meal, and a lot of laughs. The setting, Stephanie's family backyard, was absolutely perfect and just captured the intimacy, and spirit of this weekend. Stephanie wore a skirt that she loved and turned it into a dress wearing a belt she and her mother made specially for the day. Her mom even hand embroidered napkins for the guests and they were gorgeous. When the ceremony started it seemed like the most natural thing to watch and be part of this day with these two. Words of encouragement were shared by the family and Stephanie sang a song to Felipe, I don't think there was a dry eye there, I know mine were a little damp at one point during the day. The night ended with dancing and time together, no huge send off, just a, "See you tomorrow at bunch." The weekend ended with a brunch at a local vineyard and as with the theme for the weekend you knew this couple wanted this to be as much about everyone else as it was about this new part of their journey together.

Her smile was the brightest that day and it never faded.
